1.The use of “The”

(1) ဒုတိယအကြိမ် ဖော်ပြသည့် နာမ်များ၏ ရှေ့တွင် “ The ” သုံးရသည်။

Eg: (1) I bought a house. The house is near the Bazar.

ကျွန်တော်အိမ်တစ်လုံး ဝယ်ခဲ့တယ်။ အဲဒီအိမ်က ဈေးနားလေးမှာပါ။

(2) I had a fried-noodle and a cup of coffee for dinner. The fried-noodle wasn’t very good but the coffee was nice.

ကျွန်တော် ညစာကို ခေါက်ဆွဲကြော်တစ်ပွဲနဲ့ ကော်ဖီတစ်ခွက် သောက်ခဲ့တယ်။ ခေါက်ဆွဲကြော်က သိပ်မစွံလှပေမယ့် ကော်ဖီကတော့ ကောင်းတယ်။

(3) I saw an elephant in the zoo. The elephant had eaten many cane.

ကျွန်တော် တိရစ္ဆာန်ရုံမှာ ဆင်တစ်ကောင်ကို တွေ့ခဲ့တယ်။ အဲဒီဆင်က ကြံတွေစားနေခဲ့တာ။

(4) I met a man when I went to downtown. I think the man was American.

ကျွန်တော် မြို့ထဲသွားတုန်းက လူတစ်ယောက်နဲ့ ဆုံခဲ့တယ်။ သူက အမေရိကန်လို့ ကျွန်တော် ထင်တယ်။

(5) When we visited to Yangon, we stayed at a hotel. Sometimes we had our evening meal at the hotel and sometimes we went to a restaurant.

ကျွန်တော်တို့ ရန်ကုန်သွားတုန်းက ဟိုတယ်တစ်လုံးမှာ တည်းခဲ့တယ်။ တစ်ခါတရံ ညစာကို အဲဒီဟိုတယ်မှာ စားတယ်၊ တစ်ခါတရံတော့ အပြင်က စားသောက်ဆိုင်တစ်ဆိုင်ဆိုင် သွား စားခဲ့ကြတယ်။

(2) နေ၊ လ၊ ကမ္ဘာ၊ ကောင်းကင် ကဲ့သို့သော ဒီကမ္ဘာလောကကြီးတွင် တစ်ခုတည်းရှိသည့် အရာများရှေ့တွင် “ The ” သုံးရသည်။

Eg: (1)The President of Myanmar is U Thein Sein.

(2) The capital city of Myanmar is Naypyidaw.

(3) Today the sun is shining.

(4) How’s lovely! The sky is blue.

(5) The earth goes round the sun and the moon goes round the earth.

(3) မိမိဝန်းကျင်တွင် တစ်ဦးတည်း၊ တစ်ခုတည်းသာရှိသော အရာများရှေ့တွင် “ The ” သုံးရသည်။

Eg: (1) Who’s the CEO?

(2) I hate going to the clinic. (သွားနေကြ ဆေးခန်း)

(3) Yin Yin Aung works in the Ocean center.

(4) Can you turn off the light, please? (အခန်းထဲမှာ ရှိတဲ့မီး)

(5) I would like to speak to the GM, please. (ဟိုတယ်မှာရှိတဲ့ မန်နေဂျာ)

(4) မြစ်များ၊ ပင်လယ်များ၊ သမုဒ္ဒရာများ၊ ကျွန်းစုများ၊ အများကိန်းနှင့်နိုင်ငံများ၊ သဲကန္တာရာများ၊ တောများ၊ တောင်တန်းများ၊ သင်္ဘောများ၊ ရုပ်ရှင်ရုံများ၊ သတင်းစာများ၊ ဂျာနယ်များနှင့် မဂ္ဂဇင်းများ၏ အမည်များရှေ့တွင် “ The ” သုံးရသည်။

Eg: The Nile, The Irrawaddy River, The Red sea, The Atlantic Ocean, The Hawaiian Islands, The Netherlands , The Himalayas, The Rockies, The Titanic, The Moonlight, The Sun (ဗြိတိသျှ သတင်းစာ)

Eg: (1) The Irrawaddy is famous river in Myanmar.

(5) အမျိုးအစားတစ်ခုလုံးကို ကိုယ်စားပြုသည့် တစ်ခုကိန်းနာမ်များ၏ ရှေ့တွင်လည်း “ The ” သုံးရသည်။

Eg: The Ant, The Bird, The Cat, The Duck, The Elephant, etc …

(6) အဆင့်အမြင့်ဆုံး နာမဝိသေသန (Superlative Degree) များ၏ရှေ့တွင် “ The ” သုံးရသည်။

Eg: The highest, The youngest, The prettiest, The richest, The greatest, etc …

Eg: (1) Everest is the highest mountain in the world.

(2) Kaung Thuta is the youngest child in my family.

(3) Kaung Zayar is the cleverest boy in our class.

(4) Yesterday was the hottest day of the year.

(5) What was the happiest day of your life?

(7) ပထမ၊ ဒုတိယ၊ တတိယ စသည့် အဆင့်ပြ နာမဝိသေသနများ၏ ရှေ့တွင် “ The ” သုံးရသည်။

The first lady, The last boy, The fifth chapter, etc …

(8) နာမဝိသေသနများကို အများကိန်းနာမ်အဖြစ်သုံးရာတွင် “ The ” သုံးရသည်။

Eg: The rich, The blind, The wise, The sick, The old, etc …

Eg: (1) Do you think the rich should pay more taxes?

(2) The homeless need more help from the government.

(9) တူရိယာပစ္စည်း အမည်များရှေ့တွင် “ The ” သုံးရသည်။

The piano, The guiter, The violin, etc …

Eg: (1) Can you play the piano?

(2) The guiter is my favourite instrument.

(3) I hate the violin.

(10) အရေးပါ အရာရောက်သော နေရာဌာနများ၊ အဖြစ်အပျက်များရှေ့တွင် “ The ” သုံးရသည်။

The Shwedagon Pagoda, The museum, The Battle of Waerloo, etc …

Eg: (1) The Shwedagon Pagoda is the most sacred Buddhist pagoda in Myanmar.

(11) Same ၏ ရှေ့တွင် “ The ” ထည့်ပြီး (the same = အတူတူပဲ၊ ကွဲပြားခြားနားခြင်းမရှိဘူး) ဟု ရည်ရွယ်ကာ “ The ” သုံးရသည်။

Eg: (1) Your pullover is the same colour as mine. (is same colour မဟုတ်)

မင်းရဲ့ ခေါင်းစွပ်ဆွယ်တာက ငါ့ဟာနဲ့ အရောင်အတူတူပဲ။

(2) These two photographs are the same. (are same မဟုတ်)

ဒီဓာတ်ပုံနှစ်ပုံက အတူတူပဲ။

(12) ရုပ်ရှင်သွားကြည့်ခြင်း၊ ပြဇာတ်သွားကြည့်ခြင်းတို့တွင် “ The ” ထည့်သုံးရသည်။ ရုပ်ရှင်တစ်ရုံတည်း၊ ပြဇာတ်တစ်ရုံတည်းကို ပြောခြင်းမဟုတ်ပေ။

*** ရေဒီယိုနားထောင်ခြင်းကိုပြောလိုလျှင် “ The ” ထည့်ပြောသော်လည်း တယ်လီဗေးရှင်း ကြည့်ခြင်းကို ပြောလျှင် “ The ” ထည့်မပြောပေ။ “ The ” ထည့်ပြောလျှင် ကြည့်ခြင်းထက် တယ်လီဗေးရှင်းစက်ကို ပြောလိုခြင်းသာ ဖြစ်သည်။

Eg: (1) I often watch television. (ရုပ်မြင်သံကြားကြည့်သည်ကို ပြောလို၍ The မထည့်ခြင်း ဖြစ်သည်။)

(2) Can you turn off the television, please? (တယ်လီဗေးရှင်းစက်ကို ပြောလို၍ The ထည့်သုံးသည်။)

(3) I often go to the cinema but I haven’t been to the theatre for years. (ငါ မကြာခဏ ရုပ်ရှင်သွားကြည့်ဖြစ်ပေမယ့် ပြဇာတ်တော့် သွားမကြည့်ဖြစ်တာ နှစ်ချီကြာပြီ။

*** ရုပ်ရှင်ကြည့်တာ၊ ပြဇာတ်ကြည့်တာကို go to the cinema, go to the theatre လို့ သုံးရသည်။

(4) We see the boat race on (the) television. (The ထည့်သည်ဖြစ်စေ၊ မထည့်သည် ဖြစ်စေ မှန်သည်။)

(5) We heard the news on the radio.

ထူးအောင်ဝင့်
